- 1
Download the free demo
Install the permanent Steam demo (app 4300500) and run the calibration mission. See our [demo download guide](/updates/demo-download/) for install steps and what is included.
- 2
Read your first order
Calibrate the teleprinter, pull intel from the typewriter, and note coordinates before touching the map. The [teleprinter and intel guide](/guides/teleprinter-intel/) explains every message type.
- 3
Plot bearing and range
Use the tactical grid, colored pencils, and measure tool to turn coordinates into numbers the ballistic calculator accepts. Start with [map measurement](/guides/map-measurement/) if plotting feels unclear.
- 4
Solve elevation and load
Enter range on the ballistic calculator, set powder charges, pick the right shell from the [ammunition hub](/ammunition/), then traverse and elevate on the physical wheels.
- 5
Fire, read recon, correct
Pull the firing handle, study aerial photos, and walk rounds onto target with star shells when needed. Our [artillery corrections guide](/guides/artillery-corrections/) covers the full adjustment loop.
Be ready when the order comes
The free Steam demo teaches the full firing loop today. Bookmark our release date tracker , read the everything we know primer, and drill with the Firing Solution Planner before your first live mission.
Wiki FAQ
Quick answers to the most common questions.
What is IRON NEST: Heavy Turret Simulator?
A first-person dieselpunk artillery sim where you operate a 5,000-ton war machine. You read orders, plot targets on a physical map, calculate ballistics, load shells by hand, and fire — with moral consequences reported in newspapers.
Is this an official wiki?
No. iron-nest.wiki is a fan-made operator field manual. Always confirm release dates, specs, and announcements on the official Steam or GOG store pages.
Which languages are supported?
This wiki supports: English, Français, Deutsch, Español. Configure locales in site.meta.json and run npm run generate:i18n.
When does IRON NEST release?
The full game launches August 6, 2026 on Steam and GOG. A free demo remains available on Steam. See our [release date page](/updates/release-date/) for the latest launch details.
Do I need real artillery knowledge?
No. The game teaches its own simplified ballistics through on-machine instruments. Understanding range, bearing, and elevation helps, but everything you need is in the cab and on the map table.
Where should beginners start?
Install the demo, then follow the [first firing solution guide](/guides/first-firing-solution/) for one complete shot from teleprinter to confirmed hit.
How hard is the learning curve?
The first hour is procedural, not twitch-based. Once intel → measure → calculate → load → fire clicks, difficulty comes from time pressure, incomplete coordinates, and tougher target types — not confusing menus.
Does the demo progress carry to the full game?
Treat the demo as training for the firing loop. Developers have not promised save transfer; focus on learning map plotting and calculator workflow before launch.
